This interactive 2-day Workshop guides participants toward an understanding of how to use standards as the focus of instruction, formative assessments, and grading practices.

The recommendations illustrate how to connect curriculum, instruction, and assessments so that all three reflect state and district standards and work together to enhance student learning.

Participants will:

• UNDERSTAND the characteristics of feedback from formative assessments that motivate and encourage students to learn and progress toward standards.
• USE a grading scale that provides students with accurate feedback about their progress toward standards and communicates to them what they need to do next.
• DEVELOP classroom assessments for essential knowledge in the curriculum standards.
• APPLY grading formats that accurately represent student learning but still allow for certain traditions in grading and reporting.
• PLAN for increasing consistency and accuracy in standards-based, schoolwide, and districtwide grading practices.
